Lee Chapel Primary School – Careers Day

  • News

It’s never too early to think about what career path you wish to take.  So when Morgan Sindall’s Community Gateway Team were asked to speak to the children at Lee Chapel Primary School in Basildon about their aspirations for their future careers, they were happy to oblige.

On Friday 9th June, we joined a number of other local employers to speak to the children about Morgan Sindall Property Services, our role on the Basildon Contract and our BasWorx apprenticeship scheme.

Groups of children, ranging in ages from 7 – 11, visited our stall to find out about the careers that will be available to them when they finish their GCSEs.

We were accompanied on the day by 16 year old Liam (one of our BasWorx multi-trade apprentices) who spoke to the children about his apprenticeship.  They asked him questions such as why he chose this job, what he enjoys most about his role, how many hours a day he works and where he hopes his apprenticeship will lead.

Liam explained why maths and English is important in the job for calculating measurements and writing reports; he also explained the importance of health and safety in the workplace and why he wears items such as a hard hat and hi-vis vest – along with his steel-toe capped boots!

Ian Hampshire, the Deputy Head at the school commented “I want to say a huge thank you for attending our Career Fair and being so lovely to our children.  Please also pass on my thanks to Liam who was a credit to your organisation.  Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visits to your stall learning about Morgan Sindall”.

All pupils left with a construction based word search puzzle and a Morgan Sindall key ring as a souvenir of the day.
