Meet the 7th cohort of BasWorx trainees

We are delighted to introduce the 7th cohort of our BasWorx trainees; they began their apprenticeship in May and completed the course at the end of June. Each trainee joins for several different reasons. These range from school and college leavers trying to access the industry, others from struggling with unemployment and finally some individuals seeking a pathway to more reliable work.

The apprentices started, in May, their three-week classroom based training covering Health & Safety Construction Skills L1 qualification, Level 1 Certificate in Employability and the industry recognised Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card enabling access to site.

Following this, the trainees progress to a three-week work placement within our supply chain. The apprentices were partnered with an experienced operative, who mentors them throughout their apprenticeship, offering them a hands-on learning experience in electrical, plumbing and general construction.

On successful completion of the programme, each trainee received an interview with the work placement employers, and we are delighted that four of our trainees have now been offered permanent roles. Feedback from our cohort showed that 88% of candidates who attended experienced an increase in their confidence and employability skills.

BasWorx was set up to create work experience, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities for Basildon residents through a structured work based training and up skilling. It bridges the gap between young people leaving school and accessing apprenticeships, and provides the support required to help unemployed residents back into work.
