Michael lives with his family in Laindon.
He left school at 16 and went to the Lifeskills College in Basildon to study for a BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Construction. Here he learned the basics of painting, plumbing, plastering and electrical work – leaving the College in May 17 with passes in both.
He was unemployed for a couple of months and then saw an advertisement at the Job Centre in Basildon for the BasWorx Programme. He applied and the rest is history!
Michael said “I have always wanted a career in construction and the BasWorx programme is ideal for me.”
Michael added “I’ve gained so much confidence over the last few weeks and have enjoyed working with the other BasWorx trainees on site.”
Trevor Kay, one of the Apprentices from the previous cohort said “Michael has been an excellent addition to the team; it’s great that us Apprentices from the previous cohort can pass on our experience to the younger guys. We’ve learned so much and it’s good to pay it forward”.
Michael will be attending an IOSH SWiPS course through Morgan Sindall which will further enhance his career and CV. However, Michael is enjoying the programme so much that he is hoping it will lead to an apprenticeship after the 8 week trial is complete.
